Privacy Policy
Last updated: 15 September 2026
1. Overview
Sunset Mauritius ("we", "us", "our") is a small, family-run collection of holiday villas and apartments in La Gaulette, Mauritius. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect when you use our website, submit a booking enquiry, or correspond with us, why we collect it, and the choices you have about it.
We keep things simple and collect only what we need to respond to your enquiry and arrange your stay. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone.
2. Who we are
Sunset Mauritius operates the villas known as Sunset Villa, Blue Lagoon Villa, and Blue Pearl Villa in La Gaulette, Mauritius.
3. Information we collect
We collect the following categories of personal information:
3.1 Booking enquiries
When you submit the booking form, we collect the details you provide: your name, email address, country, phone number (with country code), the villa and apartment you are interested in, number of bedrooms, check-in and check-out dates, number of adults and children, any extras you select (such as daily breakfast or airport transfers), and any message or special requests.
3.2 Technical information
When a booking request is submitted, we automatically record your IP address and basic browser/device details (user agent). This helps us prevent spam and abuse of the form.
3.3 Chatbot
If you use the on-site assistant, we process the messages you type. By default the assistant answers from a fixed set of local answers. Where our optional AI assistant is enabled, your message and recent conversation history are sent to a third-party AI provider solely to generate a reply.
3.4 Correspondence
If you contact us directly by email, phone, or WhatsApp, we keep a record of that correspondence to the extent needed to handle your enquiry or stay.
4. How we use your information
We use your personal information to:
- —Respond to your booking enquiry and prepare a personalised quote;
- —Arrange your stay, including breakfast, airport transfers, and other requests;
- —Communicate with you about your reservation before, during, and after your stay;
- —Keep our records accurate and prevent spam, fraud, and misuse of our website.
5. Legal bases for processing
We process your personal information on the following legal bases, as recognised under the Data Protection Act 2017 of Mauritius and, where it applies, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):
- —Steps before a contract: to respond to your booking enquiry and take steps at your request before entering into a booking agreement;
- —Consent: where you choose to use the AI-enabled assistant, you consent to your messages being processed by the third-party AI provider;
- —Legitimate interests: to keep our website secure, prevent spam and fraud, and improve our service.
6. Who we share your information with
We share your information only as necessary to run our service:
- —Booking notifications: your enquiry is emailed to our reservations inbox (jayreshma@hotmail.com) so our hosts can respond;
- —AI provider (optional): if the AI assistant is enabled, your chatbot messages are sent to a third-party AI provider to generate a reply;
- —Service providers: our website uses third-party services (described in section 8) that may process limited technical data such as your IP address.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may disclose information where required to do so by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our guests and our business.
7. How long we keep your information
We keep booking enquiries and correspondence for as long as reasonably necessary to handle your stay and meet any legal or accounting obligations, and then we delete it. If you would like us to remove your details sooner, please contact us and we will do so unless we are required by law to keep them.
8. Cookies and third-party services
Our website uses a small session cookie that is required for the site to function securely (for example, to protect forms against forgery and to show confirmation messages). This cookie is essential and does not track you across the web.
We do not run advertising or analytics cookies. However, some content on our pages is provided by third parties, which may set their own cookies or process your IP address:
- —Google Fonts — fonts are loaded from Google's servers;
- —Google Maps — an interactive map is embedded on our location pages;
- —Elfsight — guest reviews may be displayed via the Elfsight widget.
Each of these providers has its own privacy policy, which we encourage you to review. You can control or block cookies through your browser settings, though some parts of the site may not work correctly if you do.
9. International transfers
Mauritius is our home base, but some of the services we use (email, the optional AI provider, and the third-party services above) may process information on servers outside Mauritius. Where your information is transferred, we rely on providers that apply appropriate safeguards in line with data protection law.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you are, you may have the right to:
- —Access the personal information we hold about you;
- —Ask us to correct inaccurate information;
- —Ask us to delete your information;
- —Object to or ask us to restrict certain processing;
- —Request a copy of your information in a portable format;
- —Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at jayreshma@hotmail.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
11. Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information against loss, misuse, and unauthorised access. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to keep your data safe.
12. Children's privacy
Our website is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Where changes are significant, we will take reasonable steps to bring them to your attention.
14. Contact us
